    Students Get Etiquette Training

Students at The New City School, a Long Beach Unified School District charter school, are graduating from etiquette training.

This Sunday, all 100 students at the elementary school will practice their skills at a formal dinner at The Reef in downtown Long Beach. Bill Tallichet, general manager at the Reef, has donated the dinner to the school.

Maggie O'Farrill, who has been teaching personal development to children for 20 years, taught the students in four-hour etiquette training classes. The purpose of the class was not only to teach children good manners, but to instill confidence in social situations and improve their self esteem, school officials said. The students learned the importance of first impressions, as well as introductions, speaking and listening skills, body language and poise. O'Farrill also instructed the students on proper table settings and how to behave in a restaurant.

During the dinner at The Reef, the graduates will receive their certificate of completion.
